What does RSVP mean on a wedding card?
RSVP means 'please reply': the hosts are asking if you will come. What it means on a wedding card, in Hindi too, how to reply, and how hosts should write it.
RSVP comes from the French répondez s'il vous plaît, which means 'please reply'. On a wedding card, it is the hosts asking you to tell them whether you will come, so that they can plan the food and the seating.
हिन्दी में RSVP का मतलब है 'कृपया उत्तर दें'। यानी मेज़बान जानना चाहते हैं कि आप आएँगे या नहीं, ताकि वे खाने और बैठने का इंतज़ाम कर सकें।

Reply either way
RSVP asks for an answer, whether you are coming or not. Saying no is useful to the hosts too.
Use the way they asked for
A phone number on the card means call or message that person. A link means reply on the page.
Say how many are coming
Tell them who is coming with you, and which functions you will attend. Hosts plan the food for each one.
Tell them if it changes
If your plans change, let the hosts know as soon as you can.
If you are writing the card
- Name who to reply to, with one phone number, or print your RSVP link.
- Give a date to reply by, so you are not chasing people in the last week.
- With several functions, ask which ones each guest will attend, because the numbers differ.
- RSVP already includes 'please', so 'please RSVP' repeats itself, though nobody will mind.
RSVP and its neighbours on a card
