How to send shagun online by UPI

How to send shagun online from Google Pay, PhonePe, Paytm or any UPI app, what to write with it, the custom of adding one rupee, and how hosts can receive it.

If you cannot be at the wedding, or would rather not carry an envelope, shagun by UPI reaches the family the same way any UPI payment does. All you need is their UPI ID or a QR code.

The live demo's wishes on a phone: a Leave a wish button, then wishes from Rohan Mehta, Kamla Sharma (Dadi) and Meera Iyer.

How to send it

  1. Get the family's UPI ID

Ask them, or look on their guest page if they have one. Check the name that your app shows before paying, so it goes to the right person.

  2. Open any UPI app

Google Pay, PhonePe, Paytm, or your bank's app. Choose to pay a UPI ID, or scan the QR code.

  3. Enter the amount and a note

Add a note with your name and the occasion, such as 'Shagun for Priya and Aditya, with love from the Sharmas', so that they know who sent it.

  4. Approve with your UPI PIN

The money moves from your bank account to theirs, like any UPI payment. Then send a wish too, because a payment alone feels cold.

The customs around shagun

  • How much to give depends on your closeness to the family, and on what your family has given before. There is no rule, and nobody should feel judged by the amount.
  • Many families add one rupee to a round amount, because it is considered auspicious not to end on a zero. It is a custom, not a requirement, and it works the same over UPI.
  • Some elders still prefer an envelope handed over in person. If you are going to the wedding and know the family's preference, follow it.
  • Your bank or UPI app may have a daily limit, so check before the day if you are sending a large amount.

If you are the host

On Eventos Hub you add your UPI ID once, and a shagun section appears on your guest page next to the wishes. Guests tap Pay with any UPI app, and their own app opens with your UPI ID and a note filled in; they choose the amount. The money goes straight to your account. Eventos Hub never holds it, takes no cut and keeps no record of it.

Who this helps

  • Relatives abroad or in another city who cannot come but want to send their blessings.

  • Guests who would rather not carry cash to a venue.

  • Hosts who would like shagun in their own account, with no envelopes to track.
